Defensive lineman Michael Sam announced over the weekend that he is an openly gay man. After being voted MVP and a winning season with Missouri, Michael Sam will enter the draft in the early to middle rounds in May. If drafted, he will be the first openly gay football player in the NFL. We’ve heard about other athletes that have been public about their sexual orientation late in their career or after their career. The risk here is that he isn’t drafted YET. I’m sure the NFL will make a decision to be on the right side of history. What do you think? Brave move or too risky?
