Free agent Jason Collins has played for several teams in the NBA for the past 12 seasons. Reportedly, he’s a good behind the scenes player who has been part of several championship teams, but his courage has brought him to center stage.
Sports Illustrated covered his story released today about his journey and career as a closeted gay NBA player. He talked about coming out to his family and what prompted him to come out publicly after all these years.
He’s a free agent and many are wondering whether he will be picked up by another team again…and if he isn’t picked up, will it be because his career is naturally coming to an end or because of his sexual orientation? Several teams and players have expressed statements of support thus far, but we’ll see what happens…i’m just sayin.
What do you think? Is it important to know whether professional athletes are gay? How does this change the sport, if at all? Leave your comment!
